A company of 3rd world mentality....

ECCENTRIC had just started work last week in a large company. It's going to be a great experience working with the largest textile company in the country. So he thought. He was partially correct only. After one week here, he began to see the big picture and already started thinking of quitting.

For a company with such grand reputation, the mindset of the top management is no grander than those living in the stone age. And of all the plants this company have, ECCENTRIC was unlucky to be posted to the most problematic one. The plant produces yarns of threads from raw materials like cotton, polyester and rayon. There are 6-7 main processes, a lot of different type of machineries. The plant has about 200 workers, majority of them of foreigners. Sounds like a good place to work whereby you can learn a lot new experiences, doesn't it? but wait......

Indeed, has it not been for the morons of the top management, it would be a good place to work. Let's analyze the situation: You want production efficiency, no problem, it can be done. But what happens when you are not willing to pay for it? You expect machines to run on cannibalized parts have good production rate and produce good quality products, you living in a dream world is it? The technologies are of the early 90's, possibly even late 80's. Some are down, some should be scrapped and most are running on cannibalized parts from other downed machines. The concept here is: "AJS" (Asal Jalan Sudah). How on freaking Earth can such concept have efficiency and quality???????!!!!!

Neither is there any system here. New officers are not properly trained. They expect you to know everything but not teach them. There is no systematic training for officers, depending on seniors mood and availability to teach you. ECCENTRIC had to resort to learning machine operations from operators instead. Until now he doesn't know what he must do, calculate productions, no manuals, no training, only grumbling of "you must know this, you must know that". There are millions of things to remember from reports, operations, materials, names, arrangements and formulas. It takes weeks just to familiarize everything, not master them. Best of all there is only 6 production engineers, all working on different shifts in a plant that runs 24-7 including ECCENTRIC, another junior officer and the chief.

Best thing here is the foreigners. There are Bangladeshis, Nepalese, Indonesians, and best of all Vietnamese. Bangla and Nepal can speak english, Indon can speak malay, Viets you can't talk to them you show them sign language. It's fun though when you have to communicate with them, like ducks talking to chickens =P

Overall this is just a place to gain new experiences, not work. ECCENTRIC can easily come up with better management systems for the plant after just seeing and listening to things in 1 week. Don't expect to work here for long, once getting a better offer he's gone. But don't conclude that all other plants of the company is equally bad, not necessary.
